What is Hydrofracturing?

For homeowners unfamiliar with the process, hydrofracturing is a method used to improve water flow in drilled wells by opening natural fractures in the surrounding bedrock.

Here’s how it typically works:

  1. Assessment – The well depth, geology, and current water yield are reviewed.
  2. Isolation – A packer system seals off sections of the well to focus pressure where it’s needed.
  3. Controlled Pressure Application – Water is pumped into the sealed zone at high pressure to open existing fractures in the rock.
  4. Flow Improvement – Once fractures open, groundwater can move more freely into the well, often improving yield and recovery rate.

The process uses only water and controlled pressure — no chemicals — and is designed to work with the natural geology surrounding the well.
